Dorr Mountain

Rising 1,270 feet above sea level, Dorr Mountain is the second tallest peak in Acadia National Park and features some of the most historic trails in the park — and some of the most intricate stonework. The mountain is named after George B. Dorr, the park’s first superintendent. He’s known as the “Father of Acadia.”

There are several routes to the top of Dorr Mountain — all stunning. We’ll start at Sieur de Monts Spring, where several trails explore the base of the mountain, including a trail that threads through the Wild Gardens of Acadia. The hike can be catered to the group. We don’t need to reach the summit of Dorr to enjoy some great views.

This is an excellent hike for anyone interested in learning about the history of the park and how they built the trails. You’ll be amazed by the number of granite steps.
